Just like Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is mandatory, a Disaster Impact Assessment (DIA) should be mandatory for any new developmental activity. - Satheesh, India
Certainly, there is a paradigm shift from response to
preparedness; still there is a lot of scope for improvement and
integrating the disaster prevention right from the grass root level to the top
level.
I would suggest, for any new developmental activity, like Environmental
Impact Assessment (EIA) is mandatory, in the same way a Disaster Impact
Assessment (DIA) is also needed. The Government should integrate the DIS in any developmental activity, prior to
approval to the developmental project. and this DIA should be a holistic for
all types of disasters based on the past history and potential disaster
envisaged in the future.
The NDMA should be made a focal point in giving approval for the new
projects.
