Multiple constituencies must be identified as key doers in the HFA-2 to implement newly given mandates. But WE must also voluntarily make commitments to exercise leadership in our constituencies. - Loy Rego, MARS Practitioner's Network, Mumbai, India
Ten years ago, the
earth shook, the sea rose and the world changed.
Today is a sombre
commemoration of this first decadal anniversary of the unimaginable catastrophe
to impact both Asian and African coastlines.
Occurring at the
midpoint of two earlier catastrophes of Asia, the 30th anniversary of the
Bhopal gas tragedy and the 20th anniversary of the Great Hanshin Awaji
earthquake, it is timely to recall the victims and survivors of all three
disasters. We must reflect both on what we did better and what more needs
to be done to reduce both the impact and likelihood of unnatural and
technological disasters.
Looking ahead we
must expand the multiple constituencies who must be identified as key doers in
the HFA-2 to implement newly given mandates. But WE must also voluntarily
make commitments to exercise leadership in our constituencies and in multi -stakeholder coalitions and plan ahead about what we will do on the road from
Sendai.
United and inspired
by hope, and urging us all to be brave and bold in our thoughts and actions to
build resilient people, communities and planet wide systems.
