Understanding research gaps - Mihir Bhatt

Key Research Area Gaps Emerging from Tsunami Recovery

AIDMI conducted two year long recovery study in tsunami areas across 15 locations starting from Chennai to Kanyakumari. The key research area gaps are as follows:
  • Who and how will upgrade infrastructure created during recovery process.
  • What is the long term economic impact of tsunami on the livelihoods of the poor on the coast?
  • What is the impact of tsunami recovery on sustainable fisheries?
  • What is the nature and extent of vocational skill shortages after recovery in affected youth?
  • What Green Growth areas were missed out in recovery?
  • Is a South Asian view emerging on tsunami recovery? How it helps build regional disaster risk reduction cooperation?
  • What is the gap between plan and performance between gender recovery in the tsunami communities?

The above research areas, relevant for the HFA 2 policy framework, are being developed into an action research plan with key partners.
