More inputs, dedicates funds and manpower to ensure usability of Tsunami measures - Kamal Mishra

"Infrastructure development in the tsunami prone areas should be as per the guidelines and responsibility of lapses fixed." - Kamal Mishra, Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA), Odisha, India

Some of the measures initiated after the 2004 Tsunami event like hazard, risk vulnerability assessment of the coastal villages in Odisha and the last mile connectivity for Early Warning System through SMS based system needs more inputs and dedicated funds and manpower to ensure its usability.

I feel that the leaders need to take following actions:
  • For effective early warning system there is a need for mobile based system to be established to the last mile.
  • Inland island evacuation is very difficult and the leaders have to think about vertical evacuation routes.
  • There is a need to make it mandatory for the hotel and community living within 1.5 Kms radium of the sea to prepare plans and have pre-identified routes for evacuation. The Hotels should be made held responsible for providing the early warning to their guests and  their safety.
  • To save the livelihood of the fishermen community it is important to erasure that the assets have a mooring space that is lacking.
